Community Wellness Policy
1. Improving quality of life
2. Preventing disease; cancer…
3. Enhancing student academic performance and health
With childhood cancer, obesity and its alarming consequences at an all-time high, the value of improving nutrition, environment, educational wellness resources and physical activity in our country's schools is clear.
We will implement changes needed to make a lasting improvement. We are looking for your input. Visit any Parenting Is An Art! expo to pick up your wellness policy input form.
The connection between health and student achievement is clear.
Studies have linked attentiveness to studies with a properly balanced diet, rest and exercise. Children who benefit from a well-rounded physical education program tend to be more alert, attentive, and focused in school.
Studies have linked diseases such as cancer with carcinogens and environmental contaminants. These are found in cleaners, clothing, food.... Much is unknown, much is hidden. Our children need to learn how to live healthy.
Vision
To create healthy community environments through enhanced community resources, enabling Canadian children to learn about healthy behaviours, to improve academic performance and quality of life.
Mission
Develop a community wellness plan with measurable, realistic goals and objectives
Review proven strategies used to improve nutrition and physical activity in schools
Create an action plan for positive change
Evaluate new practices and programs in achieving set goals
Supplement the expertise, skills and resources of your schools and to do this in cooperation with boards of education, schools and teachers; supplying them with resources, learning tools and expertise. Always working together to promote the health of our youth, while improving academic achievement.
Encourage government to make identified, environmental, product labelling and food policy changes for the prevention of disease.
